The army during WWI (1914 / 1918)

Frederik Brusten:

De documenten die ik gevonden heb, zijn van onze grootvader, Jean Brusten. Hij was in het leger tijdens de eerste Wereldoorlog 1914/18 en blijkbaar werd hij in juli 1919 weer ingelijfd. Ik denk dat hij van plan was om te voldoen aan zijn vriendin, later zijn vrouw, Mary Brown, in Leeds.
 

The documents I found are from our grandfather Jean Brusten. He served in the army during the first World War 1914/18. Apparently  he was still enlisted in July 1919. I think he was planning to meet his girlfriend who became later his wife, Mary Brown in Leeds.

Doreen Nyza Burgess (Holgate)

Doreen, zo heb ik haar altijd gekend.  Wat zou ik zo graag andere dan doodsberichten in deze blog zetten.  Maar, spijtig genoeg dwingt de realiteit...  Toch, voeg ik hier graag enkele quotes van haar kinderen bij.  Ik hoop dat jullie me niet kwalijk nemen, dat ik jullie citeer...

Doreen, I always knew her by this name.  How I prefer to write other notes than death notifications  in this blog.  However, reality forces me...  But, I like to add some very nice quotes from her children.  I hoop you don't blame me for quoting you...

Garth: there is now a large void in our life and it is going to be difficult to fill.

Dee: Mother had a peaceful end to her life and died at home as she had wished with her children by her side.  Louise had even given Mum a manicure.  Wanting to look her best until the end.

Mark: Doreen was a good mother to us al.Only the younger ones around now, as she was the last of an era.

The funeral will take place on the 3th of February

Frederik Brusten

Ter nagedachtenis van Frederik, zoon van Hypolitte.  Gestorven tijdens de oorlog in het concentratiekamp Güsen-Mauthausen in 1943.

Meer informatie omtrent Frederik is te vinden in een oudere post in deze blog.

In memory of Frederik, Hypolittes son.  He died during the war in the concentration-camp Güsen-Mauthausen, anno 1943.

José Tyerman (Verschueren)

Met pijn in 't hart, heb ik net vernomen dat José gisteren, 14 augustus 2013, overleden is.  In maart is ze 100 jaar geworden.  Ze was, voor zover ik weet, de oudste Brusten in leven.  Ze was de oudste dochter van Clothilde Brusten.  Laat haar rusten in vrede.

With grief I just got the notice that José has deceased yesterday, on the 14th August 2013.  In March she celebrated her 100th birthday.  As far as I know, she was the eldest member of the Brusten family alive.  She was the first born daughter of Clothilde Brusten.  May she rest in peace.

Garth Burgess

Daar ik niet aan nieuw materiaal geraak voor deze blog, zet ik nog maar wat foto's van familie uit de oude doos.  Ondertussen blijf ik genieten van de 'nieuwe' contacten die worden gemaakt.  In dit geval, staat familie vinden equivalent aan vrienden ontmoeten.

As I still don't find new material for this blog, I publish some more photos, found in the old hat.  In the meanwhile I enjoy the 'new' contacts that are made.  In this case, finding family is equivalent to meeting friends.

Reunion

Na enkele afspraken en een knappe organisatie, lukte het om een deel van de familie samen te krijgen.  We hadden onze samenkomst op het terrein van De Krikskes in Schilde. Een fantastische locatie.  Hiervoor dank ik met plezier de broerkes Etienne en Frederik. Mark en Garth waren hiervoor overgekomen naar Antwerpen.  Het was een enorm plezier met deze twee warme persoontjes in contact te komen.

Op deze foto, ondernemen we een poging om met enkel Brustessen en de twee Burgess-broers een foto te kieken.  Alvorens iedereen klaar staat, vindt er een heuse klimbeurt op de trap, plaats.  Ellen, dochter van Etienne en Rita, is al op zeker hoogte geraakt (rug, donker truitje) Mark worstelt zich ook door de familie (rug beige pak) en Peter, zoon van Stan staat nog geduldig te wachten.  Plezier alom!!!

After quite some phonecalls and due to a fine organisation, a part of the family has gathered.  We had the reunion at the quarters of The Krikskes at Schilde.  A fantastic location, really.  Therefore I 'd like to thank the brothers Etienne and Frederik.  Mark and Garth have made a trip to Antwerp to join us.  Two very warm persons they are.  It was lovely to meet them.

At this pic, we are trying to gather on the stairs to make The Picture, with only the Brustens and Burgess.  Climbing the stairs isn't that simple with a lot of people standing in the way.  So, there is, Ellen, Etienne and Rita's daughter, who has got rather high already (back, dark sweater).  Mark is searching his way up through the family (back, beige suit) and Peter, son of Stan is still downstairs, waiting patiently. The rest is having a lot of fun!!!

Als laatste heeft ook Paul zijn plaats in genomen.  De foto kan worden genomen. Mark, staat bovenaan in de schaduw, maar gelukkig is hij duidelijk zichtbaar op de vorige foto.

Last but not least, Paul has joined us.  The pic can be taken.  Mark, is standing in the shadow, on top, but fortunatly he can be seen clearly at the previous picture.
